The Buhler, Hesston and Hutchinson boys swim teams opened the 2025-26 season by placing third, sixth and ninth at the Newton Invitational Thursday.

Andover won the team title with 333 points, followed by Winfield 225, Buhler 167, Goddard Eisenhower 164, Newton 124, Hesston 99, Valley Center 85, Hutchinson 74 and Dodge City 66.

Buhler posted Top 10 finishes in every race, including Top 3 finishes in the 200-yard medley relay, 50-yard freestyle, diving and 100-yard freestyle.

Returning Buhler swimmers had several major time cuts from last season’s personal best.

Senior Hudson DeWeese won the 100-yard freestyle and placed third in the 50-yard freestyle. DeWeese qualified for the state meet in the 100 and earned a state consideration time in the 50 free.

DeWeese helped Buhler post an eighth-place team finish at the Kansas Class 5-1A state meet last year — the best finish in program history.

DeWeese secured an individual state medal in the 200 individual medley, finishing eighth in 2:09.58 after setting a school record in the prelims (2:07.97).

The Crusaders also set school records and medaled in all three relays, which DeWeese was a part.

DeWeese also teamed with Logan Schmidt, Jonah Gardner and Scott Schweizer to win the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail III-IV title in the 200 freestyle relay.

The 200-yard medley relay of White, DeWeese, Regehr and Auxier earned a state consideration time. The foursome now have a qualifying time in their sights. Senior Zach Greenlee finished second overall in diving.

Buhler and Hutchinson swimmers competed at the Maize Invitational Saturday along with Andover, Andover Central, Derby, Maize South, Newton, Rose Hill, Wichita Trinity Academy, Wichita Heights, Wichita Northwest and Winfield.

Buhler Crusader divers Zach Greenlee, Sam Biggs and Noah Fleischmann competed Friday night.

The Maize South meet took place at the Maize Aquatic Center.
