The Buhler High School girls and boys cross country teams placed second and third in the team standings in their respective 5K races Saturday at Prairie Ridge Cross Country Park in Hutchinson.
Buhler won the regional girls title with 21 points, followed by Pratt 51, Rose Hill 80, Andale 93, Wellington 121 and Mulvane 139.
Andale won the Hutchinson regional boys title with 33 points, followed by Buhler 65, Pratt 79, Mulvane 92, Rose Hill 125, Hugoton 168, Clearwater 175 and Ulysses 179.
Seven Buhler girls placed in the top 17, led by regional champion Corbin Starkweather, who placed first with a 5K time of 19:36.4.
Isabella Friesen and Isabella Friesen placed second and third with times of 19:50.6 and 20:17.2.
Brynlee Adams and Hannah Dick placed eighth and ninth with times of 21:19.3 and 21:35.4. Haylee Kinast and Emma Smith placed 15th and 17th with times of 22:21 and 22:28.9.
Gavin Lindahl is the Class 4A Hutchinson regional champion. He placed first in the boys 5K with a time of 16:45.3.
Teammate Ryan Cherry placed eighth with a time of 17:37.5. Zayden Mendenhall and Samuel Hougham placed 15th and 16th with times of 18:03.3 and 18:05.3.
Cole Unruh, Christian Valle and Noah Napier placed 30th, 34th and 37th with times of 19:06.6, 19:24.8 and 19:32.7.
The state cross country meets for Classes 6A, 5A and 3A will take place on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence. The state meets for Classes 4A, 2A and 1A will take place Nov. 1 at the Wamego Country Club.
