The Buhler varsity boys and girls basketball teams both posted impressive victories over Winfield Tuesday night at the Jim Baker Fieldhouse in Buhler.
The Buhler boys downed the Vikings 61-41 and the Crusader girls rolled to a 48-34 victory.
The Buhler boys led at halftime 26-15 and increased the lead to 17 points (45-28) at the end of the third quarter.
Four Crusaders scored in double figures, led by Jacob Miller, who scored 15 points on 6-of-8 field goals. Asher Zachary had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Luke Holmbeg tallied 11 points and Brycen McCurdy 10.
Isaiah Heredia did not score but distributed 6 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds.
Gabe Edmiond scored 6 points and handed out 4 assists. Jared Miller scored 5 points, dished off 3 assists, had 2 steals and 2 blocked shots.
The Buhler boys improved to 13-9 and Winfield fell to 9-13.
Winfield’s Evan Hutto now has scored more than 1,000 career points. The 6-foot senior averages 18.2 points, 2.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game after averaging 12 points per contest last year.
The Buhler girls led 11-6 after one quarter, 15-13 at halftime and 33-21 after three quarters. Buhkler outscored the Vikings 16-13 in the fourth quarter.
Kindly Combs led the Buhler girls in scoring with 11 points. Kenzie Polk added 9 points, Tori Tustian 7, Ella Voss 6, Harlie Terrell 4, Nyah Sewell 3, Addy Keller 3, Zoey Dick 2, Maddie Stallman 2 and Jenna Lackey 2.
Terrell grabbed 7 rebounds. Sewell 5, Combs 4, Stallman 4 and Lackey 3. Voss had 5 assists, 5 steals and 1 blocked shot. Stallman had 3 assists. Keller had 3 steals. Tustian, Terrell, Sewell and Lackey blocked shots.
The Buhler girls snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 10-12. Winfield’s record dropped to 1-21.
The Buhler teams play their final regular-season games Thursday at Augusta.
The Winfield boys and girls play McPherson on Thursday night.
