GARDEN CITY – The No. 12-ranked Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 Jayhawk Conference road loss to Garden City on Saturday at Broncbuster Stadium.
The Blue Dragons fall to 5-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Jayhawk Conference. A much-improved Garden City, which is receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Rankings, is 8-2-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the KJCCC. The Blue Dragons play host to Barton at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.
Hutchinson is now 18-15 all-time in 1-0 games and are 2-1 against Garden City in 1-0 contests.
With possession time in the offensive zone at a premium throughout the game, the Broncbusters broke the scoreless the 53rd minute. About 45 yards from the goal, the Blue Dragons encountered some Garden City pressure and turned the ball over. Tahlia Alvey lofted a pass to Summer Barrett, who drove to the left side of the goal and lofted a shot from 15 yards away to the upper right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead with 37:27 remaining in the second half.
The Blue Dragons out-shot Garden City 12-4 in overall shot attempt and 5-2 in shots on goal. Garden City keeper Isabelle Barske made five saves in the shutout victory.
Bessie Simpson, Poppy Smith, Isabell Van Fleet, Olivia Tamaki and Anastasia Pokrandt all had shots on goal against Barske.
Blue Dragon keeper Evie Carvell (3-2-1) had one save.
The Blue Dragons had 10 corner kick opportunities to Garden City’s one.
Garden City snapped a 34-game unbeaten streak against the Blue Dragons. Before Saturday, Hutchinson was 33-0-1 all-time against Garden City.
