Former Hutchinson Community College standout Daniel Brown and former Lyndon/Inman star Tanner Heckel contributed to Illinois’ 30-28 win over Tennessee Tuesday night in the Liberty Mutual Music City Bowl.
Brown, a Kansas City-Bishop Ward alumnus, had five tackles for the Fighting Illini against Tennessee. The 6-1, 250-pound junior is in his second season at Illinois after redshirting last year due to injury.
Before Illinois, Brown spent two seasons at Hutchinson Blue Dragons, where he was the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year and an All-American playing for Drew Dallas. He prepped at Bishop Ward under head coach Greg Duggins.
Heckel, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound sophomore defensive back who was named Academic All-Big Ten, recorded three tackles in the Fighting Illini victory, including half of a sack.
Another former Lyndon standout Miles Kitselman played tight end for the Tennessee Volunteers. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound senior who also played collegiately at Hutchinson CC and Alabama, caught 1 pass for 3 yards.
Luke Altmeyer accounted for two touchdowns for the Fighting Illini, Leon Lowery Jr. recovered a fumble for a touchdown and David Olano made three field goals
