Brawner Lifts Haven past Kingman in Class 3A State Football Opener

The “Cole Train” ran over Kingman Thursday night.

Haven High School sophomore running back Cole Brawner rushed for 280 yards on 40 carries and scored five touchdowns to lead the Wildcats past Kingman 44-31 in the first round of the Kansas Class 2A state football playoffs Thursday night at Haven.

Brawner has rushed for 1,515 yards on 220 carries with 22 TDs this season. He gained 225 yards on 32 carries and scored three touchdowns in a 34-6 win over Kingman on Oct. 24.

Brogan Wray completed 10-of-16 passes for 72 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Wray has completed 98-of-157 passes this season (62.43%) for 1,263 yards, 9 TDs and 7 interceptions.

Zade Turner caught 5 passes for 34 yards and now has 30 catches this season for 435 yards, 2 TDs and 1 fumble. Christethen Barrientos caught 3 passes for 16 yds with one TD catch.

On defense, Haven’s Grant Patry made 6 solo tackles (4 assists and 2 tackles for loss). Tanner Loughrie had 3 solo tackles and 7 assists.

Wray had 3 solo tackles, 4 assists and an interception. Brawner made 2 solo tackles, 1 assist and an interception.

Jaxon Wilder had 2 solo tackles (including 1 tackle for loss) and 3 assists. Wilder has 63 total tackles this season with 2 forced fumbles and 1 interception.

Cody Holzrichter blocked an extra point. The Haven defense created a safety on a punt attempt.

Haven will play the winner of the Minneapolis-Phillipsburg playoff game Friday night at Phillipsburg.
