HASTINGS, Neb. (TaborBluejays.com) – The Lady Bluejays made the trek up North to Hastings College on Saturday, facing a solid Broncos team ranked No. 25 in the nation. The previous matchup between these two teams ended in a devastating 0-1 loss for the Bluejays last season. Coming off their 5-0 win against Central Christian just last weekend, Tabor entered the match confident and ready to face one of the toughest opponents of the 2024 season.
The first half of the match was heavily in control of the home team, as a number of Broncos took shots at the goal, all of which were saved by the freshman, Neve Mulrooney. Taylor Nye found the opportunity to return the favor, however, her shot was saved by the Broncos with twenty-six minutes left in the first half. Both teams acquired a yellow card, and the first half resulted with eight shots by Hastings and only a single shot by Tabor.
The second half proved to be a tough challenge for the Bluejays, as Hastings would yet again take control of the majority of it. Porsha Zweifel took a shot at the goal early in the half but was unsuccessful in her pursuit. After Zweifel’s attempt at the goal, it was strictly defense for Tabor as the Broncos took 12 total shots throughout the second half. Mulrooney’s outstanding performance led Tabor to a 0-0 tie with Hastings at the end of the evening. Her 10 saves earned her two Women’s Defensive Soccer Player of the Week awards, both in the KCAC and NAIA. She recorded her second clean sheet of the season and gave Tabor their first positive result over a Top 25 opponent in program history.
The Bluejays will open conference play against McPherson College on the road this Wednesday, September 18th. The match is scheduled for kickoff at 5 p.m. at McPherson Stadium and Paul Family Field.
