HASTINGS, Neb. (TaborBluejays.com) – The Bluejays ventured out of Hillsboro this weekend, traveling to Hastings College to battle the Broncos in a Saturday evening showdown. Going into the match, the Bluejays were 2-1 on the season while the Broncos had a record of 2-4.
Against Central Christian last weekend, Tabor led most of the match, but the Tigers came back to equalize the score nearing the end. It resulted in a 1-1 tie, which left TC looking for a positive outcome as the new week arrived.
For the first twenty minutes of the match, the Broncos controlled the field taking four shots on goal, all of which were either blocked or missed. For the Bluejays, Andre Trigo and Felipe Rodriguez took their chance at scoring, but neither attempt was successful. In the last five minutes of the half, Hastings scored their first and only goal of the evening, taking the lead into halftime.
The second half proved to be a back-and-forth battle for both teams, amounting to seven shots taken for Hastings and three for Tabor, all of which were unsuccessful. Alejandro Honrado racked up five total saves throughout the game, including one in the first half and four in the second half. Unfortunately, the Bluejays could not gain much momentum nearing the end and finished the match with a 0-1 loss.
Tabor will be on the road again this week to open up conference play at McPherson on Wednesday, September 18th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at McPherson Stadium and Paul Family Field.
