Blue Dragons to meet Clarendon in NJCAA Tournament Quarterfinals

With two wins already in the books, the Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team advances to the NJCAA Division I Women’s National Tournament quarterfinal round for the eighth time in program history on Saturday.

The 13th-seeded and 13th-ranked Blue Dragons (29-6) will meet the No. 8-ranked and fifth-seeded Clarendon Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m. in the third quarterfinal game of the day at Townsley Law Arena in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The game will be broadcast live on KHMY-FM (93.1) beginning at 2:15 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) calling the action. The game will be televised on ESPN+ with Zach McKinstry (PBP) and Brian Burton (Color) calling the action.

The Blue Dragons are 7-0 all-time in the quarterfinals of the national tournament, last playing in the round of 8 in 2024 during their national championship run.

So far, the Blue Dragons have defeated No. 20 Williston State 54-50 and No. 4 Northwest Florida State 64-53 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Defense has led the way for the Blue Dragons in Lake Charles, holding two of the nation’s best offenses 41.2 and 18.3 points under their respective season scoring averages. The Dragons are allowing 51.5 points and 35.3 percent shooting.

Freshman guard KaMyra Barber has led the Blue Dragons, averaging a double-double with 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game.

The Dragons have been balanced offensively in the national tournament. Katie Duncan is averaging 11.0 points, Whitney Brown is averaging 10.0 points and Noelle Anthon is averaging 9.0 points per game.

Clarendon, the Region 5 champion, played its first tournament game on Friday, defeating Three Rivers 61-57 in a second-round matchup.

Clarendon is the third-straight high-scoring, strong defensive team the Blue Dragons have faced in the 2026 tournament.

The Bulldogs are averaging 74.8 points per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 34.0 percent from 3-point ranges. Clarendon is third in the NJCAA in scoring defense at 49.1 points per game, the second-straight game the Blue Dragons will face a Top-5 defensive team.

Armanda Sindalawa is Clarendon’s leading scorer at 16.7 points per game. Zainab Olalekan averages a double-double at 11.4 points and 13.9 rebounds, which ranks second individually in the NJCAA.

This will be the first meeting ever between Hutchinson and Clarendon.
