Coming off a Jayhawk Conference championship season and an at-large berth in the NJCAA National Tournament, the Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team opens the 2025-26 season ranked No. 13 in the national preseason Division I rankings released on Monday.
The Blue Dragons went 29-5 last season. Hutchinson tied Dodge City for the Jayhawk Conference championship with a 21-3 record. Hutchinson was upset in the semifinals of the Region 6 Tournament, but gained an at-large bid to the national tournament. After an opening round 61-58 victory over South Georgia Technical College, the Blue Dragons fell in the second round to Three Rivers 50-48.

Four players return from last year. Guard Katie Duncan and forward Jaden Wilson played in a 34 games last season. Guard Dylan Alexander and forward Noelle Anthon both return from missing more than half the season last year with injuries.
The Blue Dragons welcome Johnson County transfer Jamya McPherson and Vincennes transfer Delora Pricop and six freshman into the mix this season.
Head coach John Ontjes begins his 19th season with the Blue Dragons. He has a 512-101 overall record at Hutchinson.
The Blue Dragons have one more home scrimmage scheduled before the opening of the 2025-26 regular season. Hutchinson will play host to the Newman University Jets at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Sports Arena.
Hutchinson will be on the road to open the regular season in Sedalia, Missouri for the State Fair Classic. The Dragons open with Southeast Nebraska at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 31 and then will play Triton at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 1. The Dragons open at home on November 7-8 with the BSN Tipoff Classic against NEO and Neosho County.
