The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team lost its home-opener in three sets to No. 5-ranked Barton Community College Wednesday night at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
Barton defeated Hutchinson 25-18 in the first set. The Barton Cougars led the Hutchinson Blue Dragons 4-0 and 15-9.
In the second set, Barton defeated Hutchinson 27-22. Hutchinson led 12-9, 18-12, 20-15 and 24-22 before the Cougars went on a 5-1 run for the second-set win.
Barton won the third set 25-20. The Cougars jumped out to a 12-9 lead. Both teams scored 8 points to make the score 20-17. Barton finished off the match with a 5-3 run.
The Blue Dragons dropped to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play.
Hutchinson plays at Pratt Community College at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Blue Dragons host Colby Community College next Wednesday and Garden City Community College on Sept. 13. Both matches start at 6 p.m.
Barton CC improved to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in KJCCC play. Barton competes at the Odessa (Texas) Invitational Friday and Saturday.
