Blue Dragon Offense Erupts against Bobcats

The day started for the Hutchinson Community College baseball team with a 13-run opening inning against Southeast Community College on Tuesday at Hobart-Detter Field.

The midweek game with the Bobcats ended with the fifth-most runs scored, a school-record-tying number of hits and an 18-game Hobart-Detter Field win streak.

The No. 11-ranked Blue Dragons reached 20 or more runs for the sixth time this season in a 25-2 victory over Southeast.

The Blue Dragons improve to 26-4 overall, the best start through 30 games in program history. Hutchinson opens a four-game weekend KJCCC series with Butler at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Hobart-Detter Field.

The 25 runs scored tie a 2016 game against Brown Mackie for the fifth-most runs scored in Blue Dragon single-game history. The Dragons’ 24 hits tie a single-game record originally set against Brown Mackie on February 24, 2016.

The Blue Dragons extended their record of games scoring 20 or more runs to six this season. This is the 38th time in program history and the 14th time in the Brock Nehls era.

Hutchinson’s 13-run first inning was the second-biggest single inning this season and tied for the third-largest single inning in team history.

Eighteen Blue Dragon batters came to the plate in the first inning. Aidan Marien (single, double), Anthony Mazza (triple, home run), Cru Huenfeld (single, double) and Finn Hochstein (single, single) all had two hits in the inning. Hutchinson totaled 13 hits in the opening inning.

Twelve different Hutchinson players had hits, 12 different Blue Dragons scored runs and 11 different  Dragons drove in at least one run.

Mazza extended his hitting streak to 19 games going 3 for 5 with a triple, home run and four RBIs. He also scored three runs. Mazza’s hitting streak ties for the third-longest hitting streak in program history.

Marien was 3 for 3 with a two-run double, solo home run and three RBIs. Marien has a nine-game hitting streak.

Eli Duncan was 3 for 5 with two two-run doubles and a solo home run. He has a season-high five RBIs. Duncan’s hit streak reached 15 games.

Max Flowers was 3 for 5 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs. He extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Jordan Kuhnau, Jackson Shanuel, Huenfeld and Hochstein all had two hits each.

The Blue Dragons hit four runs  in a game for the eighth time this season.

Five Blue Dragon pitchers held Southeast to two hits, which matches an opponent season-low in 2026. Vinny Jarrell (1-0) earned the win with 1 2-3 innings. Jarrell, Jorden Clarke, Lincoln Muller, Brooks Jones and Jeffrey Neill combined to strike out eight Bobcat batters.

The Blue Dragons are now 18-1 at Hobart-Detter Field, winning the last 18 straight at home after dropping the 2026 season opener.
