The Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball team was overwhelmed by 17 Butler 3-point field goals on Monday night.

Minus their leading scorer Kyrell Shaw, who missed the game with injury, the Blue Dragons allowed season highs for points and 3-pointers in Hutchinson’s 102-73 KJCCC loss to the No. 25 Grizzlies at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Hutchinson dropped its fourth consecutive game and is now 10-10 overall and 5-9 in the KJCCC. The Blue Dragons have a 48-hour turnaround and will play host to Independence at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sports Arena. Butler is now 14-6 overall and 10-4 in league play.

The Blue Dragons and Grizzlies split their 2026 season series.

Tied at 20-20 with 7:53 remaining in the first half, Butler took control of the game with a 20-6 run. That run was extended to a 31-18 Grizzly advantage over the final 7:53 of the first half as Butler built a 51-36 halftime lead.

Butler built that lead hitting 17 of 48 3-point goals as 10 different Grizzly players hit at least one 1-pointer. The Grizzlies also outscored Hutchinson 24-4 in second-chance points despite Hutchinson out-rebounding the Grizzlies 43-40.

Butler outscored Hutchinson 51-37 in the second half. The Dragons pulled within eight points with 15:28 remaining in the second half, but that was as close as Hutchinson got.

Sophomore Daleron Thomas led the Blue Dragons with a season-high 22 points on 6 of 12 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers. He was 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. Thomas also tied a season high six rebounds and dished out a career-high seven assists.

Sophomore Bobby Cannon had 19 points and seven rebounds. Anthony Alston had 13 points and four assists.

The Blue Dragons shot 44.6 percent (26 of 58), hitting 5 of 19 from 3-point range and 16 of 25 from 3-point range. The Dragons committed a season-high 27 turnovers.

Butler shot 44.0 percent (40 of 91) and had only nine turnovers. The Grizzlies had a 29-11 scoring advantage in points off turnovers.

Devin Kerr, Aiven Riley and Tim Walker had 14 points each to lead Butler. Tristan Hankins had 13 points.

GAME NOTES – The Blue Dragons are now 132-72 all-time against Butler. … The 29-point margin of loss was the largest suffered in series history with Hutchinson and it tied for the 10th-largest loss in program history. … Blue Dragon freshman Gabe Pyle played a season-high 17 minutes, 37 seconds.
