HUTCHINSON, Kan. (BlueDragonSports.com) – For the seventh straight time, the Hutchinson Community College football team has been picked to win the KJCCC title this season.
The 2025 KJCCC Coaches’ Preseason Poll was released Tuesday. Hutchinson is coming off winning its fifth straight Jayhawk conference title.
The Blue Dragons won the NJCAA Division I Football National Championship last season at West Texas A&M University’s Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium in Canyon, Texas with a thrilling come-from-behind win over top-seeded Iowa Western 28-23. It was the second national title win in the last five years.
On their way to winning the national title in Texas, the Blue Dragons – seeded third in the NJCAA Division I Football Playoffs – defeated Georgia Military 63-21 in the NJCAA national semifinal in Milledgeville, Georgia to advance to the championship game.
Running back Waymond Jordan Jr. – now playing at the University of Southern California – was named the JUCO Weekly Trophy recipient, given to the top player in NJCAA football.
The Blue Dragons finished with an 11-1 record last season – the 10th time in program history the team has reached 10 victories in a season – and claimed the No. 1 spot in the final poll of last season’s NJCAA Division I football rankings.
The Dragons fluctuated between No. 2 and No. 3 during the season before finishing the regular season ranked third in the country. Hutchinson has appeared in 49 consecutive national polls, a streak dating back to week 9 of the 2021 season.
Head coach Drew Dallas, entering his sixth season at the helm, is now 48-5 in his career.
The Blue Dragons kick off the 2025 season and their national title defense on the road at New Mexico Military Institute with a 1 p.m. kickoff Saturday, Sept. 6. The Blue Dragons play their home opener at noon, Saturday, Sept. 13 in a national title game rematch against the Iowa Western Reivers, the first of four home games this season.
The Blue Dragons open conference play on the road at Dodge City at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11. After a month on the road, Hutchinson returns to Gowans Stadium to host Independence at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.
