Ad Astra Radio is proud to announce Sterling High School senior Blake Smith as this week’s Athlete of the Week, presented by Hutchinson Community College.
The week – Smith capped off his impressive high school basketball career with three solid performances at the Class 2A state tournament. In the first round March 11 at Wichita State’s Koch Arena, Smith scored 12 points and added a steal, an assist and a blocked shot in a 77-29 win over Douglass. In the semifinals at Emporia’s White Auditorium, Smith had seven points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal in a 73-52 win over St. Marys. The next day, Smith had 13 points, four rebounds, two blocked shots and an assist in a 59-49 win over Berean Academy, sealing Sterling’s second straight title.
The season – Smith averaged 13.1 points per game while shooting 50% from the floor. He also shot 39% from 3-point range and led Sterling with 50 made 3-pointers.
