AUSTIN, Tex. (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany College Swedes Baseball team returned to Texas, this time Austin, Texas, to take on the Huston-Tillotson University Rams in a four-game series featuring all seven-inning games.

Game 1

The inaugural game of the series was a close contest until the seventh inning where the Swedes would hang seven on a board in the top of the seventh inning to run away with it 10-2.

Alexander Cuevas would be the highlight of the Ram’s seventh-inning debacle sending a shot over left field with Josue Figuera and Manny Leos on the base path for a three-run homerun capping the inning’s scoring. Cuevas would record three hits and five RBI in game one.

Christopher Echavarria would go the distance in this one allowing two runs on four hits while striking out nine.

Game 2

Saturday night’s night cap was competitive throughout the entire contest. Huston-Tillotson would escape with a 3-2 victory via two late scores in the contest.

Josue Figuera went two-for-two while also scoring a run. Israel Brenes singled to center field to score Figuera. Four Swedes would successfully snag a bag with no one caught stealing.

Joseph Guzman drew the start in Game 2 going 5.2 innings allowing seven hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out three. Willian Figueroa-Soto would enter in the sixth with two outs and strikeout the lone batter he faced that inning. Figeuroa-Soto would strike out one more in the seventh before giving up the final run of the evening.

Game 3

In the Sunday opener, spectators were greeted with a lot of scoring in the first three innings. 13 of the contest’s 18 runs were scored by the end of the third inning. Nine of those runs were in favor of Bethany which was enough for the Swedes to survive a three-run inning by the Rams and take home the win 10-8.

Fabian Dumey hit his first homerun as a Bethany Swede scoring himself and Connor Crayton in the second inning to knot it up at three apiece. In the very next inning, Alexander Cuevas hit his first grand slam of his career over left-center field scoring Bryce MoseleyWilliam Sanchez, and Fernando Bones.

Aiden Troup drew the start and would go five complete innings with six strikeouts before Willian Figueroa-Soto entered to start the sixth inning. Figueroa-Soto would record the save only surrendering two hits and one run while striking out two.

Game 4

Just like the previous night, the latter game of the day wasn’t near as high-scoring as the first. The Swedes would allow four runs in the third inning and one in the fifth. Their rally in the seventh inning wasn’t enough as the Rams would breathe easier after only surrendering one run in the inning to take the game 5-4.

Connor Crayton hit his first homerun of the season in the fourth inning scoring Alexander Cuevas. Josue would capitalize on a throwing error in the seventh inning as the Rams’ infielder were trying to throw out a speedy Jonathan Crist.

Christian Gonzalez started Game 4, but would only last three innings before Kenneth Nieves entered to start the fourth. Nieves outing wouldn’t last long as Alex Martinez entered before an out was recorded to go the final three innings not allowing a single hit or run and striking out one.
