Beloit Boys, Girls Take Down Lyons Basketball

The Lyons and Beloit boys battled in a tight game, with Beloit pulling away in the second half for a 59-46 win.

Beloit led after one 16-14, but the game was tied at 27 at halftime as Lyons tied the game three times but could never gain the lead. 

Beloit got off to a hot start in the opening seconds of the third quarter, as 6-foot, 6-inch freshman forward Truitt King got the first basket of the half on a two-handed dunk from the left baseline.  That and a tight defense propelled the Trojans to 48-33 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. 

Beloit was led by King with a game high 18 points. Also in double figures for Beloit was Brody Litton with 13.  

Detrell Stanley was the high scorer for Lyons with 13 points. Tegan Link was also in double figures with 12 points.

Beloit improves their record to 15-3 and 9-1 in the NCAA standings while Lyons falls to 8-12 and 3-7 in league play.  Lyons will finish the regular season at home on Friday as they host Southeast of Saline.

Beloit girls 59, Lyons 22 – Behind the inside play of Reagan Cheney and the quick guard play of Karlee Smith, the Beloit Trojans defeated Lyons in NCAA league play at Beloit.

Lyons stayed with Beloit early, as the score after one period was 16-7.  Beloit stiffened its defense in the second period as they held Lyons to only two points while putting up 17 of their own to lead 33-9 at halftime. 

The third period was more pressure defense and fastbreak transition baskets for the Trojans, as they increased the lead to 53-11 heading into the fourth quarter.

Beloit was led in scoring by 6-1 senior center Reagan Cheney with 20 points. Karlee Smith was also in double figures with 15 points.

Leading the way for Lyons was Dayanna Gonzalez with six points.

Beloit advances its season record to 14-4 and 9-1 in league play.   Lyons is now 2-18 for the season and 0-11 in NCAA action.
