GREAT BEND, Kan. – Great Bend Bat Cats pitcher Jacob Field and outfielder Davin “Peanut” Brazzle earned Jayhawk Collegiate League weekly honors Tues., July 8.
Field was named one of the honorees for Pitcher of the Week. The right-handed pitcher threw a complete-game shutout against the Wichita Wildcats Tuesday, July 1 in their 4-0 seven-inning win. Field allowed just five hits and struck out three batters in the contest. The 6’4″ hurler is from Hoisington and will play at Barton Community College.
Brazzle had a stellar week for the Bat Cats, hitting a combined 8-15 (.533 average). Half of the eight hits went for extra bases with two doubles and two home runs, putting his slugging percentage on the week at 1.067. The Temple, Tex. native also stole four bases.
The Bat Cats are 16-10 on the season and sit in 3rd place in the Jayhawk Collegiate League standings. They’ll face first-place Hutchinson Wed., July 9 at Hobart-Detter Field at 7 p.m before returning home to face the Monarchs Thurs., July 10.
