Baseball Bulldogs Split with Oklahoma Wesleyan in Season Finale

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs softball team wrapped up their season Tuesday (Apr. 23), winning game one 2-0 before falling in game two 9-1 to the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles in Bartlesville, Okla. The game one win snapped a 10-game losing streak.

GAME ONE – McPherson 2, Oklahoma Wesleyan 0

Jordyn Johnson drew the start for the Bulldogs in the opener and allowed just three hits in seven scoreless innings, while striking out four batters.

MC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, thanks to an RBI double by Alexandrea Garcia, driving in Rowdy New.

Johnson shined early, holding the Eagles hitless through the first two innings. That score would hold until the top of the fourth when Kaitlyn Sarsfieldtripled, bringing in Garcia who reached on a single up the middle.

From there, Johnson and the Bulldogs defense took over, holding the Eagles without a baserunner over the final two innings.

The Bulldogs finished with seven hits, their most since Apr. 6. Garcia and Sarsfield led the way with two hits apiece.

GAME TWO – Oklahoma Wesleyan 9, McPherson 1 (5 innings)

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs again took a 1-0 lead, this time on an RBI single by Garcia, driving in Shelley Jobe.

However, from there it was all Eagles, scoring nine unanswered runs, including five in the third inning, to pick up the run-rule.

Samantha Hollingsworth started in the circle for the Bulldogs and threw 2.2 innings with seven hits and allowed four runs. Ashanti Thompson came on in relief and finished the game, allowing just two hits.

MC matched their game one total with seven hits, but were plagued with seven errors. Jobe, New, and Sarsfield each finished with two hits apiece.

The Bulldogs season comes to an end with a 17-25 record, and a 9-17 mark in KCAC play in head coach Abby Bolton‘s second season at the helm.
