SALINA, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – It was another day of double header action for the Bulldogs on Sunday (Fed. 2) and once again they split their pair of games as they dropped their first game against the University of Science and Arts but collected a win against Doane in their second game.

Game One- RV USAO-6 McPherson College-1
The Bulldogs and Drovers started off the game trading runs in the third inning. MC started it off first thanks to Peyton Starr as he drove in the game’s first run to give MC the 1-0 lead. This did not last past the inning as USAO responded right back with a solo homerun in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game right back up. Pitching remained strong for both sides as it took until the fifth inning for the Drovers to break through with a two run homerun to take a 3-1 lead heading into the home stretch. Daniel Norris, tabbed as the starter for the contest, put in five full innings of solid work as he allowed just three runs to score and kept the Bulldogs in striking range.

Things began to unravel in the bottom of the sixth. With the score still 3-1 in favor of USAO, a trio of walks and a pair of errors with the bases loaded ballooned the lead to 6-1. This remained the score until the end as the Drovers stomped out any hope of an MC comeback in the final inning with three strikeouts.

Game Two- RV Doane University-4 McPherson College-6
In a rematch of the first game from Saturday’s action, Doane and MC both struck in their halves of the first inning. Doane struck first with an RBI single but Peyton Starr brought in Jared Kramp off a sacrifice fly to tie things up at one run apiece. Marcus Patton scored Colin Evers off an RBi single in the bottom of the second inning to give MC the 2-1 lead, but the Flaming Tigers quickly tied it up again due to a Bulldog error allowed a runner to score in the top of the third. Come the bottom half of the third inning, Starr started a big MC run with a big solo homerun and then struck again in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double to make it a 4-2 lead for the Bulldogs.

Doane was unable to counter as Matthew Vigil put in a strong effort on the hill as the starting pitcher, surrendering just two runs in five innings of work while striking out five batters. The Bulldogs continued to add on in the bottom of the sixth as Luke Nordean was able to steal home to score a run and Kramp recorded an RBI single to make it a 6-2 lead for MC. The Flaming Tigers sparked a comeback attempt in the final frame, scoring two runs off of walks with the bases loaded. With the score now 6-4, the Bulldogs called upon Chris Jackson to come out of the bullpen and shut the door. Jackson did just that, recording the final out to give MC the victory.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, February 7 as they return to the state of Louisiana for The Cajun Collision for their first of two double headers. The first game will pit MC against Georgetown College at 11 a.m. with game two being against Indiana University Kokomo at 6 p.m.
