GREAT BEND, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the KCAC Tournament Saturday (May 4), falling 7-3 to the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes at the Great Bend Sports Complex in Great Bend, Kan.
The Bulldogs will now play an if-necessary game tomorrow (May 5) starting at 11:00 a.m., against the Coyotes for a chance to go to the championship game.
Carson Cornelius threw four innings, allowing five hits, and just two early runs, but the Coyotes broke through in the top of the fifth with two.
Peyton Starr cut into the lead with a single through the right side, bringing home courtesy runner Ky’rell Taylor.
The Coyotes pushed the lead to 7-1 in the top of the sixth, adding three to their total on a pair of RBI singles by Alex Garcia and Jarrett Gable.
MC pulled closer late in the game when Kevinn Castillo doubled down the left field line in the eighth, bringing Colin Evers around to score. Then Andres Artola singled home Evan Morrison. The Bulldogs had runners at second and third, but a groundout finished it off.
The Bulldogs finished with 12 hits, but just three runs. Morrison and Castillo led the way with three hits apiece, while Artola, Starr, and Castillo each finished with an RBI.
With a win tomorrow, the Bulldogs will advance to the championship game against Oklahoma Wesleyan. The Eagles came into the tournament as the three-seed, and are unbeaten heading into the title bout.
