GREAT BEND, Kan. (BartonSports.com) – Elena Stankovic and Mina Kaneko of the 9th ranked Barton Community College volleyball team have each received KJCCC honors from week eleven performances.
The duo helped lead the Cougars to a pair of four-set victories last week, the first coming Wednesday at Dodge City followed by Saturday’s win hosting Garden City keeping the Cougars tied atop the KJCCC standings at 13-1 and 26-2 on the year.
Stankovic had a pair of double-doubles keying Barton’s 6-2 offense, averaging 5.75 assists per set while contributing on the defensive end with 2.75 digs per set. On the road Stankovic put up 26 assists with 12 digs followed by a 20 assist and 10 dig effort on Saturday in posting her second and third double-double of the sophomore’s season.
Kaneko averaged 6.25 digs per set anchoring the backline, 22 digs behind a .952 receiving percentage and bumped a career-high seven assists at Dodge City before capping the freshman’s week with a career-high 28 digs on a .958 service receive and chalked up a service ace.
The awards are the third and fourth of the season for the Cougars joining Phoebe Reyes and Naya Danenberg‘s consecutive honors in week four and five respectively.
Tonight, Barton concludes its two-match homestand at 6:30 p.m. hosting Hutchinson as the match will be preceded by sophomore recognition. The Cougars will then close out the regular season Saturday, November 2, with a 3:00 p.m. first serve at Cloud County before attention turns to hosting at least a first round playoff match on November 6.
