HUTCHINSON, Kan. (BartonSports.com) – A 35th-minute goal on a cool, overcast morning in Hutchinson proved the difference maker as the Barton Community College women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to 12th ranked Trinity Valley Community College at Don Michael Field.
The decisive moment came when the Cardinals’ Megan Gerrish found the back of the net off a corner kick from Nancy Jacobo, providing what held as the game-winner.
With the loss, the Cougars move to 1-1-0 on the young season, while Trinity Valley evens its record at 1-1-0 following a narrow 2-1 loss on Monday at 15th ranked Hutchinson. Barton will now have a two-week break before beginning Jayhawk Conference play on September 10 at Seward County Community College in a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.
Barton finished with 10 total shots, placing four on frame. Katie Potter led the offensive end with four attempts, including two on target, while Sara Aguirre and Saki Takaki each tested the keeper with a shot on goal.
In net, Leonie Kerle (1-1-0) collected four saves, while Trinity Valley’s Nikia van Middendorp matched her efforts in recording the shutout.
