Axtell and Hanover dominated the Kansas Class 1A DII boys basketball semifinals Thursday night at Emporia’s White Auditorium.
Axtell blasted Cunningham 84-40 and Hanover rolled past Lebo 94-42.
Axtell (27-1) will play Hanover (27-1) in the championship game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Cunningham (17-9) will play Lebo (20-8) for third place at noon Friday.
Axtell led Lebo 15-5 after one quarter, 39-18 at halftime and 67-32 after three quarters. Axtell outscored Cunningham 17-8 in the fourth quarter.
Collin Shaughnessy led Axtell with 22 points, including six 3-pointers (Axtell made 13-of-28 3-pointers). Joseph Lybarger scored 16 points and had 4 steals.
Logan Sandmann recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Wyatt Detweiler had 13 points and 6 assists.
Landon Schmitz had 6 points and 5 assists. Bill Lybarger scored 6 points.
Kendall Rogers led the Cunningham Wildcats with 13 points and Dylan Henderson scored 12 points. Skyler Thimmesch grabbed 5 rebounds.
In the second semifinal game, Hanover led Lebo 24-18 after one quarter and 42-23 at halftime. Hanover put the game away with a 33-11 third quarter and a 19-8 fourth quarter.
Tanner Bruna led Hanover with 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Cooper Bruna scored 21 points. Waylon Meyn had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Wyatt Simpson and Braden Jueneman each had 9 points, Jack Bruna scored 8 points and Brody Sedlacek tallied 7 points.
Cody Fehr and Jae’Mykel Hall each scored 11 points to lead the Wolves. Fehr also grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. William Konrade had 3 steals.
