STERLING, Kan. — Ad Astra Radio is proud to announce Sterling High School senior Zane Farney as this week’s Athlete of the Week, presented by Hutchinson Community College.
The week – One of the state’s best running backs saved his masterpiece for last. Farney rushed for a season-high 279 yards and scored three touchdowns on Friday, as Sterling won the Class 1A state championship with a 35-34 win over Rossville at Hutchinson’s Gowans Stadium. Defensively, Farney had four tackles and one pass deflection.
The season – Farney, a senior, finished his season with some eye-popping numbers. Farney rushed for 2,326 yards on just 215 carries, averaging 10.8 yards per rush. He had at least 100 rushing yards in 11 of 13 games and scored 42 touchdowns. He scored at least two touchdowns in 11 of 13 games.
