NICKERSON, Kan. — Ad Astra Radio is proud to announce Nickerson High School senior Kristopher Monroe as this week’s Athlete of the Week, presented by Hutchinson Community College.
The week – Monroe continued his strong season by winning the 165-pound division at the Central Kansas League tournament in Pratt. Monroe won all five matches, giving up just four points in those matches. His closest match was a 3-0 win over Haven’s Ayden Romero. Monroe’s efforts helped Nickerson win the league championship with 121 points, edging Smoky Valley by one point.
The season – Monroe will be a threat to win the Class 4A championship. Headed to regionals, Monroe is 37-2 and has won all but two tournaments. Monroe set the school record for career wins this season with 114, breaking the old mark of 107, set by Jarren Gomez. Monroe also finds time to help coach with the Nickerson Jr. Panthers wrestling club.
