Area Recruiting News: Pratt High Tight End Arley Morrell Released from Iowa State Letter of Intent

Pratt High School standout Arley Morrell has been released from his signed letter of intent at Iowa State University and is looking to play college football at another NCAA Division I program.

Morrell’s withdrew from his letter of intent signing when Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell took the head coaching position at Penn State. Taylor Mouser was the offensive coordinator at Iowa State for 10 years under Campbell and will be the new OC at Penn State.

“Due to recent coaching changes and a lot of talk with my coaches and family, I am reopening my recruitment,” Morrell said on social media. “It was a difficult decision, but is the best decision for my future. Thank you to lowa State, coach Campbell and coach Mouser for the opportunity and everyone that has supported me.”

The compliance office for lowa State University removed Morrell’s signed status.

“The recruiting commitment no longer applies, so you can communicate with other coaches,” said the Iowa State compliance office in a statement.

Morrell, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound three-star tight end who originally committed to Colorado State prior to the firing of Jay Norvell, also received offers from Arizona, Oregon State, Wake Forest, Washington State and others before flipping his commitment from the Rams to Iowa State.

Morell also was released from the Colorado State commitment.

• Manhattan High School senior Delaney Larson signed a letter of intent to play college basketball at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich.

• Hugoton High School alumnus Isaac Martin, a Butler Community College Grizzlies linebacker who was highlighted for his play as a high school quarterback, has committed to play football at Fort Hays State University.

• Conway Springs High School senior Reece Johnson has signed of intent to play softball at Cowley College next year.
