Area high school football roundup: Three area teams advance to championship games

Andale 55, Holcomb 14 – Andale took away any suspense with a dominant first half which saw the Indians score all their points in the game’s first 21 minutes, 47 seconds in a Class 3A semifinal

Andale led 16-0 before Holcomb ran an offensive play, as Landon Harp scored on the opening drive on a 34-yard touchdown run, and Sam Harp added the two-point conversion. Holcomb then fumbled on the ensuing kickoff, Andale recovered, the Jack Horsch scored in the next play from scrimmage on a 24-yard run.

Holcomb answered with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Keegan Johnson to Javid Corral, but Andale scored five unanswered touchdowns. Sam Harp had touchdown runs of 16, 4 and 4 yards, and he also threw a 37-yard touchdown to Ian Schrandt, and a 41-yard touchdown to Landon Harp.

Andale finished with 385 yards, compared to 113 yards for Holcomb.

Andale will play Topeka Hayden for the 3A title next Saturday at Gowans Stadium in Hutchinson, looking for its fifth title in six years.

Central Plains 28, Clifton-Clyde 25 – Central Plains won another close playoff game, getting the winning touchdown with 32 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

It was the only time the Oilers led.

Central Plains trailed 14-6 at halftime, but immediately tied on a Brodie Crites 10-yard touchdown pass to Aiden Hekele, and two-point conversion run by Joel Schreiber.

Tied 22-22 late, Clifton-Clyde took the lead on a 22-yard Oliver Nobert field goal with 1:28 left. But Crites engineered the winning drive, capping it with a 26-yard touchdown to Schreiber.

Central Plains improved to 10-2 and will take on Hoxie for the Eight-player Division 1 state championship on Saturday in Greensburg.

Cunningham 54, Tescott 8 – Cunningham won for the seventh time by mercy rule this season, and those seven games are the only times Cunningham has taken the field this season.

The other three wins were by forfeit.

Cunningham is now 10-0 and seeks its second six-player state championship in three years on Saturday in Greensburg by taking on Weskan.
