Nickerson High School senior Elizabeth Dick posted a 3-0 record and captured first place in the 235-pound weight class at the Class 4A West Regional wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday at Augusta High School.
Nickerson’s Brooklyn Schneider placed eighth in the 130-pound weight class.
Dick and Schneider qualified for the 4A state tournament Feb. 27-28 at Salina’s Tony’s Pizza Events Center.
Nickerson’s Bella Brinkley, competing at 105 pounds, lost her first match of the day Saturday. Brinkley posted an 11-17 record during her freshman season.
Buhler’s Macey Parks placed sixth at 145 pounds with a 2-3 record and qualified for the 4A state meet.
Also competing for Buhler were Emma Smith, 100 pounds; Swayze Redman, 120; Ariana Gonzalez, 125; Olivia Hall, 130; Maliyah Jackson, 145; and Abigail Ehret, 155.
Competing for Haven were Amelia Scott, 100; Tristel Schroeder, 130; Lily Wickey, 135; Haydan Williams, 140; and Teagan Rogers, 145.
Scott, Schroeder, Williams and Rogers qualified for state. Scott and Williaqms placed second. Schroder and Rogers placed seventh.
Competing for Larned were Miranda Nolde, 105; Zoiey Garcia, 115; Cara Herbert, 140; Mia Muden, 145; and Paisley Weiszbrod, 190.
Haven placed 14th in the regional with 73.5 points, Larned, 15th, 71; Nickerson 25th, 36; and Buhler, 28th, 9.
Hutchinson will send four wrestlers to the Class 5A state meet at Park City. Aaida Brown placed second at 110 pounds at the Class 5A regional at Newton, Khloee Snith placed fifth at 115 pounds, Baleigh Cousins placed sixth at 140 pounds and Karly Belote placed seventh at 105 pounds.
The Lyons girls wrestling team will send four representatives to the Kansas Class 3-2-1A state tournament Feb. 27-28 at Gross Memorial Coliseum on the campus of Fort Hays State University.
Lyons’ Kennedy Grizzle placed third at 105 pounds. Grizzle now is the all-time wrestling career wins leader at Lyons with 146.
Mia Pulley (100), Taylor Baxter (115) and Carsyn Winger (190) each placed eighth and qualified for state.
Sterling’s Jacynn Boeken placed second at 115 pounds and Addison Morgan placed fifth at 120 pounds. Both qualified for state.
Halstead entered two wrestlers in the regional and both qualified for state. Addi Thompson placed sixth at 155 pounds and Ashlee Ledford placed eighth at 170 pounds.
Lyons placed 19th in the team standings with 42 points. Sterling placed 22nd with 34 points. Halstead placed 29th with 18 points.
