Buhler girls, boys split games against Goddard
The Buhler Crusader girls and boys basketball teams split games against Goddard Tuesday night at Goddard.
The Buhler varsity girls fell to Goddard 48-38 and the Buhler boys won 58-46.
The Crusader girls trailed at halftime 22-19 and 33-32 at the end of the third quarter. Goddard outscored Buhler 15-6 in the fourth quarter.
The Buhler boys led Goddard 15-12 at the end of the first quarter, 24-19 at halftime and 41-27 at the end of three quarters. The Goddard boys outscored Buhler 19-17 in the fourth quarter.
Wellington girls, boys sweep Hutchinson Trinity
The Wellington Crusader girls and boys basketball team swept the Hutchinson Trinity Catholic Celtics Tuesday night at the Wellington gymnasium.
The Trinity teams played their second games of the Cheney Classic basketball tournament.
The Wellington girls won 77-17 and the Crusader boys won 43-40.
In the boys game, Wellington led 9-6 at the end of the first quarter, 24-14 at halftime and 37-26 at the end of the third quarter.
The Celtic boys went on a 13-6 run in the fourth quarter to close the final margin to 3 points at 43-40.
The Wellington girls led Trinity 23-2 after one quarter, 43-7 at halftime and 72-9 after three quarters. Trinity outscore Wellington 8-5 in the fourth quarter.
Cienna Maskil tallied 12 of the 17 Trinity Celtic girls points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Alyss Guajardo scored the other 5 points.
Inman boys down Hillsboro in Moundridge tourney contest
The Inman High School boys defeated Hillsboro 52-41 Tuesday night in the Moundridge Pre-Season Basketball Tournament.
Inman led Hillsboro at halftime 29-11.
Malachi Brunk led the Inman Teuton boys with 17 points, including four 3-pointers. Kru Harris added 12 points.
The Hillsboro Trojan boys were paced by Braxton Hiebert with 20 points, including six 3-pointers. Brayson Amstutz added 10 points.
The Inman boys will play Lyons at 4:30 p.m. Thursday and the Moundridge boys play Hillsboro at 7:30 p.m. Thursday

Inman girls fall to Hillsboro in Moundridge Pre-Season Tournament
The Inman High School girls basketball team lost to Hillsboro 38-32 Tuesday night in the Moundridge Pre-Season Tournament.
Inman trailed 24-23 at halftime.
The Inman girls will play Lyons at 3 p.m. Thursday and the Moundridge girls play Hillsboro at 6 p.m.
The Inman girls play Moundridge at 6 p.m. Friday. The Lyons girls play Hillsboro at 3 p.m. Friday.
Halstead girls, boys take two from Marion
The Halstead High School girls basketball team, the defending Kansas Class 3A state champions and the No. 1-ranked 3A girls team, defeated the host Marion Wildcats 48-27 at the Marion Classic.
The Halstead Dragon girls led 20-9 after one quarter, 35-13 at halftime and 42-17 at the end of the third quarter. Marion outscored the Dragons 10-6 in the fourth quarter.
With the win, Halstead advances to Saturday’s championship game Saturday against Berean Academy. The championship is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Halstead High School boys basketball team defeated Marion 49-36 Tuesday night at the Marion Classic. The Dragons, coached by former Haven coach Lonnie Paramore, improved to 2-1.
Halstead led 9-6 after one quarter, but Marion took the lead at halftime 21-20.
Halstead went on a 14-7 run in the third quarter to take a 35-28 lead and outscored Marion 14-8 in the fourth quarter.
The Halstead boys will play Berean Academy in the Marion Classic boys title at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Moundridge boys, girls sweep Lyons in home tournament
The Moundridge High School boys basketball team, the No. 2-ranked team in Kansas Class 2A in the latest KBCA rankings, rolled past Lyons 75-34 on the second night of the Moundridge Pre-Season Tournament.
The Moundridge girls basketball team handed Lyons a 69-10 loss Tuesday night.
The Moundridge boys led 40-20 at halftime.
Four Moundridge Wildcat boys scored in double figures, led by Easton Shahan, a transfer from Hillsboro, with 24 points (including six 3-pointers).
Heath Churchill scored 18 points, Jesse Lutz added 12 and Layton Schmidt tallied 10.
Tegan Link scored 21 of Lyons’ 34 points, including all 10 of the Lions’ points in the second quarter.
Nickerson girls, boys swept by St. John at Larned Keady Classic
The Nickerson High School girls and boys basketball teams lost their first round games to St. John at the Larned Keady Classic Monday at the Larned Middle School gymnasium.
The Nickerson Panther girls lost a 72-20 decision to the St. John Tiger girls and the Nickerson Panthers boys lost 62-31.
In the girls game, the score was tied 9-9 after one quarter. St. John outscored Nickerson 28-0 in the second quarter to take a 37-9 halftime lead.
The Tigers outscored the Panthers 26-7 in the third quarter to increase the margin to 63-16.
The St. John Tiger girls outscored Nickerson 9-4 in the fourth quarter for the 72-20 final score.
Lilly Brummer and Gentry Bright each scored 24 points for the Tiger girls. Jalyn Fisher tallied 14 points.
Skylar Lamas led the Nickerson girls with 7 points and Taylor Galloway added 4.
In the boys game, St. John led 16-8 after one quarter, 34-14 at halftime and 55-27 after three quarters. St. John outscored Nickerson 7-4 in the fourth quarter.
Emmett Delp led St. John with 22 points. Wyatt Mawhirter contributed 14.
Riley Brawner paced the Nickerson boys with 12 points.
In Monday’s other Keady Classic games, the Hoisington Cardinal girls defeated the Bucklin Red Aces 45-40 and the Hoisington boys downed Bucklin 60-36.
The Nickerson girls will play Plainville at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Larned High School gymnasium.
The Nickerson boys will play Holcomb at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Larned High School gymnasium.
