The Buhler High School varsity boys and girls basketball swept the Nickerson Panthers in the two school’s season openers Friday night at Jim Baker Fieldhouse.
The Buhler varsity girls defeated the Panthers 61-17. Buhler led 15-8 after one quarter, 40-10 at halftime and 55-12 at the end of the third quarter.
The Crusader varsity boys defeated Nickerson 67-13. Buhler led 23-8 after one quarter, 43-8 at halftime and 58-11 after three quarters.
Buhler also won the junior varsity boys game 57-29, the JV girls game 43-13 and the C team boys game 53-17.
The Nickerson girls and boys will compete in the Larned Keady Classic next week.
The Panther girls play St. John at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Larned boys vs. St. John at 7 p.m. Both games will be played at the Larned Middle School gymnasium.
Other schools competing are Hoisington, Bucklin, Larned, Kinsley, Holcomb and Plainville.
Halstead girls 61, Rose Hill 21
The Halstead High School varsity girls basketball team defeated the Rose Hill Rockets 61-21 Friday night at Halstead.
Halstead led 20-0 after one quarter, 39-5 at halftime and 52-13 after three quarters.
Bailey Bernal led Halstead with 16 points. Addisen Wills contributed 13.
Josie Palmer led Rose Hill with 9 points.
Rose Hill boys 62, Halstead 51
The Halstead Dragon varsity boys basketball team dropped a 62-51 decision to Rose Hill Friday night at the Halstead gymnasium.
The Rockets led 20-15 after one quarter, 35-22 at halftime and 45-35 after three quarters.
Southeast of Saline girls 40, Hesston 37
The Southeast of Saline girls basketball team opened the season with a road win at Hesston.
Southeast of Saline won the varsity girls game 40-37. The Trojans trailed 8-5 after one quarter and led at halftime 18-15.
Hesston boys 63, Southeast of Saline 42
The Hesston boys basketball team defeated Southeast of Saline 63-42 in its season-opening game Friday night at Hesston.
Hesston led 20-8 after one quarter, 36-18 at halftime and 56-30 after three quarters.
Moundridge boys 66, Elyria Christian 40
The Moundridge High School boys improved to 2-0 with a 66-40 victory over McPherson Elyria Christian Friday night.
Moundridge led 18-2 after one quarter, 36-19 at halftime and 56-29 after three quarters.
Six Moundridge players accounted for all 66 of the Wildcats’ points, led by Shahan with 20 points. Jesse Lutz scored 16 points, Layton Schmidt 9, Heath Churchill 8, Kaizer Kanitz 8 and Fynn Burge 5.
Nate Romero led Elyria Christian with 17 points, including three 3-pointers. Mason Gardner also hit three treys for his 9 points. Gabe Steadfast added 7 points.
Inman High School basketball teams 3-3 against Minneapolis
The Inman High School basketball teams won three games and lost three games Friday at the Inman Orange and Black Gyms.
The Teuton varsity boys defeated the Lions 46-33, the Inman varsity girls won 55-21 and the junior varsity boys won 42-24.
The Inman JV girls lost 31-27, the C team boys lost 13-6 and the C team girls lost 26-19.
The Inman Junior High School basketball teams went 4-2 Thursday at Marion.
The A team boys won 51-24, the A team girls won 35-26, the B team boys won 31-5 and the B team girls won 10-9. The C team boys lost 6-2 and the C team girls lost 23-2.
Lyons girls, boys split varsity games against Ellsworth
The Lyons High School girls and boys basketball teams split their contests against Ellsworth Friday night at Lyons.
Ellsworth won the varsity girls game 54-21 and Lyons won the varsity boys game 54-34.
The Ellsworth girls were led in scoring by Alexis Moore with 11 points. Elyse Haxton scored 10 and Kelli Rodriguez 9.
Liberty Belote led the Lyons girls with 11 points.
Pretty Prairie boys 58, South Haven 43
The Pretty Prairie High School boys basketball team took down the South Haven Cardinals 58-43 Tuesday.
Pretty Prairie’s Owen Anderson fired in 21 points. Emmett Harbaugh scored 10 points and added 4 steals.
Pretty Prairie played Argonia on Friday.
South Haven challenges Oxford on Tuesday.
