NICKERSON, Kan. — The Andale basketball teams got two impressive performances in their doubleheader against Nickerson on Tuesday.
Brooke Grimes scored a game-high 23 points and hit seven 3-pointers, breaking her previous school record of six made 3s in a game in a 74-18 victory over the Lady Panthers. Caden Fowler recorded a double-double of 17 points and 17 rebounds in the Indians’ 56-35 victory over the Panthers.
In the boys game, Nickerson led by as many as six in the first quarter, but once Andale got the lead with an 8-0 run, it never relinquished it. Andale led 16-14 after one and turned it into a 27-19 lead at halftime. The Indians led by as many as 26 in the second half. Behind Fowler’s double-double, Hunter Grimes added 16 for Andale, who improves to 11-3. Riley Brawner led Nickerson (4-14) with 18 points.
In the girls game, Andale (9-5) never trailed , leading 17-3 after the first quarter and 41-12 at halftime. The fourth quarter was contested with a rolling clock. Behind Grimes’ 23 points, Mayla Spexarth added a career-high 12 while Abbi Winter added 11. Skylar Lamas’ eight points led Nickerson (0-18).
Andale returns home to take on McPherson on Thursday. Nickerson travels to Pratt on Friday.
