Andale Weekly Wrap: Volleyball, Cross Country and Golf Keep Up Strong Performances

ANDALE, Kan. — The midway point of fall sports has approached, and more strong performances are from Andale athletes.

Volleyball

After dropping its first match of the season against Bishop Carroll at the Valley Center Invitational, the Lady Indians bounced back with a pair of wins at El Dorado on Tuesday. Andale defeated El Dorado, 25-16, 25-7, and defeated Collegiate, 25-15, 25-10. Andale remains ranked No. 4 in Class 4A with a 14-1 record. Andale will host its first two matches of the season on Tuesday, facing Augusta and Buhler. The Lady Indians will wrap up the week playing in the Newton Tournament on Saturday.

Cross Country 

Four Andale cross country runners medaled at the Buhler Invitational on Thursday in Hutchinson. On the boys side, Jack Cutler finished fifth with a time of 17:01.6. Roman Lubbers finished 19th (17:51.5) and Sam Pavelski took 20th (17:54.2). Other finishers for the Indians included Cade Brown (23rd, 18:06.8), Dustin Buchanan (26th, 18:13.4), William Parks (35th, 18:46.8) and Levi Schmidt (40th, 19:07.3). On the girls side, Ayvah Banda finished 13th with a time of 21:54.9. Other finishers for the Lady Indians included Miriam Mazzarelli (31st, 23:18), Carlin Seiler (47th, 24:56.6), Emma Meyer (54th, 25:42.2), Olivia Steven (59th, 25:55.6), Mabel Smarsh (61st, 26:08) and Kate Eck (76th, 29:38.7). Team scores were not posted. Andale will send runners to Lawrence on Friday for the Rim Rock Classic.

Girls Golf

The Lady Indians finished seventh out of 12 teams at the Wellington Invitational on Monday. Jacee Mattox finished in a tie for 17th with a round of 95. Billie Jo Chaffin finished in a tie for 22nd with a 97. Sadie Aylward shot a 106, tying for 36th. Ali Wegerer finished 53rd with a 116. Eva Krehibel rounded out the card for Andale, finishing 64th with a round of 136. Andale will play two tournaments next week, at Cherry Oaks Golf Course hosted by Cheney on Tuesday and at Hesston hosted by Buhler on Friday.
