Andale Weekly Wrap: Volleyball and Boys Cross Country Head to State

ANDALE, Kan. — Two Andale teams and one individual clinched tickets to state in their respective sports, while two individuals competed in state golf. 

Volleyball 

The No. 2-ranked team in Class 4A is heading to Hutchinson next week for the Class 4A State Tournament. Andale, the No. 1 seed in 4A west, swept Hugoton (25-5, 25-12) and Abilene (25-16, 25-17) to clinch its state berth. Andale will enter the state tournament with a 31-1 record. Pool play will take place on Friday, with bracket play on Saturday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. Andale is the No. 1 seed and will play at 11 a.m. against Bishop Miege, at 1 p.m. against Paola and at 3 p.m. against Rock Creek. 

Cross Country 

The Andale boys cross country team is heading to state after winning the Class 4A No. 1 regional hosted by Buhler on Saturday at Prairie Ridge Country Park in Hutchinson. Andale claimed the regional 33 points winning by 32 points over Buhler. The Indians had four runners finish in the top 10 led by regional runner-up Jack Cutler finishing with a time of 17:03.1. Sam Pavelski was sixth (17:27.6), Roman Lubbers taking seventh (17:28.2) and Dustin Buchanan finishing ninth (17:39). Levi Schmidt finished 13th (17:47.9) and Cade Brown took 14th (17:59.4). William Parks finished 28th (18:50.2). The Andale girls missed qualifying as a team finishing fourth. Avyah Banda qualified as an individual with a fourth place finish with a time of 20:29.4. The Class 4A State Championships will be held next Saturday at Wamego Country Club. 

Girls Golf 

Jacee Mattox and Sadie Aylward played in the Class 4A State Golf Championship on Monday at Carey Park in Hutchinson. Both missed the cut for the final round. Aylward shot a 105, finishing in 69th, while Mattox shot a 115, taking 80th.
