Andale Weekly Wrap: Indians Wrap Up Regular Season

ANDALE, Kan. — The postseason is here for Indian athletics. Volleyball and cross country wrapped up their regular seasons this week, while girls golf has state on Monday and Tuesday.

Volleyball

It was a perfect week for the Lady Indians going 4-0 finishing the regular season with a 29-1 record. Andale celebrated Senior Night on Tuesday with a sweep over Rose Hill (25-14, 25-9) and El Dorado (25-4, 25-10). The Lady Indians wrapped up the regular season on Thursday, sweeping Clearwater (25-16, 25-16) and Wichita Collegiate (25-23, 25-23). Andale will be the No. 1 seed in the Class 4A West Sub-State and will host a sub-state tournament next Saturday in Andale. KSHSAA will announce opponents and times on Monday.

Cross Country 

The Andale boys cross country team won the AVCTL 4 Championship on Thursday at Clapp Park in Wichita. Andale won the meet with 18 points, winning by 31 points over Wichita Collegiate. Six runners finished in the top 10, led by individual champion Jack Cutler, who won the meet with a time of 16:43.78. Roman Lubbers finished third with a time of 17:32.26. Sam Pavelski finished fifth (17:35.55), while Dustin Buchanan took sixth (17:59.32). Cade Brown finished eighth (18:25.65) and Levi Schmidt took ninth (18:27.58). Rhett Romero finished 14th (18:56.82). Andale also had the individual champion on the girls side with Ayvah Banda winning the meet in 20:58.23. Carlin Seiler finished seventh with a time of 23:14.71. Emma Meyer finished 13th (24:04.21) and Mabel Smarsh took 19th (24:36.32). Olivia Steven was 25th (25:36.92) and Lucy Seiler took 26th (26:49.90). As a team, Andale was third with 62 points. Andale will compete at the Buhler regional next Saturday at Prairie Ridge Cross Country Park in Hutchinson with the girls running at 10 a.m. and the boys to follow at 10:35 a.m. The top 3 teams and top 15 individuals qualify for state.

Girls Golf

Two golfers qualified for state at the Buhler sub-state held on Monday at Hesston. Jacee Mattox and Sadie Aylward were among the top five individuals to qualify for state, not on a state-qualifying team. Mattox finished 13th with a round of 91, while Aylward was 16th with a 96. Billie Jo Chaffin finished 27th with a 108, Peyton Jantz took 33rd (115), Ali Wegerer was 38th (124), and Eva Krehbiel was 45th (132). Mattox will tee off at 9:20 a.m. off Hole 10, while Aylward will follow at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Carey Park.
