Andale Weekly Wrap: Indians Continue to Shine as Postseason Approaches

ANDALE, Kan. — With the calendar turning to October, Andale athletes continue to stand out as the regular season closes and the postseason nears. 

Volleyball 

Now ranked second in Class 4A, Andale’s winning streak has reached 12 after a pair of wins on Tuesday over Rose Hill (25-19, 25-15) and Wellington (25-19, 25-16). Andale (23-1) will host Augusta and Wellington for its lone matches for the week on Tuesday. 

Cross Country

After winning the Crimson Division of the Rim Rock Classic, the Andale boys cross country team won the Perry-Lecompton Invitational in Topeka on Thursday. Andale won the meet with 34 points, five points ahead of runner-up Santa Fe Trail. The Indians had four runners place in the top 10, with five total in the top 20. Jack Cutler led the way with a runner-up finish with a time of 16:40.2. Sam Pavelski was sixth (17:24.8), Dustin Buchanan took seventh (17:37.1), and Cade Brown was 10th (17:51.5). Roman Lubbers finished 14th (18:33.1), and Rhett Romero was 23rd (19:10.6). The Andale girls finished sixth as a team with 121 points. Avyah Banda finished third with a time of 20:50.7. Carlin Seiler finished 29th (23:54.3), Emma Meyer was 34th (24:09.3), while Olivia Steven took 35th (24:12.5). Miriam Mazzarelli ran a 24:52.3, good for 41st. Mabel Smarsh finished 42nd (25:20.6), and Lucy Seiler was 61st (28:52.2). Andale will travel to North Newton next Thursday for the Goessel Invitational. 

Girls Golf 

Andale finished eighth in its home invitational at Cherry Oaks Golf Course on Monday. The Lady Indians finished the tournament with a score of 399. Jacee Mattox finished 21st with a round of 91. Sadie Aylward took 34th with a 96, while Billie Jo Chaffin was 40th with a 98, and Bailey Mertes finished 61st (114). Andale returns to Cherry Oaks Golf Course for the AVCTL III and IV Tournament on Tuesday.
