The start of November began with a high note for Andale athletes on Saturday.
The Andale volleyball team won the Class 4A state championship, for the program’s second state title at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. Andale needed three sets to defeat Hayden in the championship match (25-12, 25-27, 25-20). The Lady Indians also needed three sets in their semifinal against Clay Center (23-25, 25-19, 25-18). Andale went 3-0 in pool play on Friday, defeating Bishop Miege (25-21, 25-22), Paola (25-19, 25-14), and Rock Creek (25-23, 25-16). Andale finished the season with a 36-1 record, with the Lady Indians winning 34 of them in two sets.
Indians Boys Cross Country Finish Runner Up
At Wamego Country Club, the Andale boys cross country team claimed a runner-up finish in Class 4A with 99 points, finishing 45 points behind team champion Wamego. Jack Cutler led the way for the Indians, finishing ninth with a time of 16:49.96. Roman Lubbers also earned medalist honors, taking 17th with a time of 17:10.14. Sam Pavelski was 28th (17:35.67), Cade Brown took 33rd (17:52.63), Levi Schmidt finished 36th (17:58.02), Dustin Buchanan was 39th (18:00.96) and Rhett Romero finished 59th (18:41.97). On the girls side, Ayvah Banda earned medalist honors, finishing 19th with a time of 20:39.99.
