Andale Sweeps Mulvane in Key Class 4A Doubleheader

MULVANE, Kan. — In a pair of games involving huge implications in the 4A west sub-state standings, the Andale basketball teams picked up a sweep over Mulvane on Tuesday.

The Andale girls defeated the Lady Wildcats, 60-51, while the sixth-ranked Andale boys had to hold off the Wildcats for a 50-45 victory. 

In the girls game, both teams went back and forth with Mulvane leading 19-16 at the end of the first quarter. Andale used a 15-7 second to take a 31-26 lead at halftime. The Lady Indians led 48-40 heading into the fourth and led by as many as 10 in the final quarter.  Brooke Grimes led Andale (11-5) with 23 points, tying a season-high.

In the boys game, Andale (12-4) led 17-12 after the first quarter and 27-19 at halftime thanks to a layup by Caden Fowler to end the half. The Indians led 42-31 heading into the fourth and led by as many as 13 on multiple occasions in the quarter. Leading 49-36 late, Mulvane used a 9-1 run to finish the game and pulled within four, but not any closer. Three Indians scored in double-figures with Jack Horsch scoring 14 points, Fowler recording a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Cruz Kaiser added 10. 

Andale begins the second half of AVCTL-IV play at Rose Hill on Friday.
