WELLINGTON, Kan. — The final games of the pre-Christmas schedule resulted in a split for Andale against Wellington on Friday night.
The ninth-ranked team in Class 4A, the Andale boys held off the Crusaders with a 46-42 victory. Andale led 15-8 after the first quarter before Wellington took a 22-21 lead at halftime. Andale flipped the script taking a 37-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Tied at 42 with under a minute to go, Hunter Grimes had a 3-point play that gave the Indians the lead for good. Sam Harp iced the game going 1-for-2 at the free throw line with eight seconds remaining. Harp and Cruz Kaiser each had 12 points to lead the way for Andale (3-1, 2-0 AVCTL-IV).
The No. 1 team in 4A, the Wellington girls used a strong second half for a 37-25 victory over Andale. Wellington led 9-2 after one and led by as many as 11 early in the second quarter, but Andale used a 13-1 run to lead 15-14 at halftime. Wellington began the third with a 13-0 run and never looked back, remaining undefeated. Abbi Winter led Andale (2-2, 1-1 AVCTL-IV) with six points.
Andale returns to action on January 2nd when it hosts Garden Plain.
