Andale Girls Take Fourth in 53rd Wildcat Classic

HAVEN, Kan. — After tough losses in the semifinals against Halstead and Cheney, respectively, both Garden Plain and Andale looked to get out of the 53rd Wildcat Classic with a 2-1 record. 

The in-district rivals met for a second time this month in the third place game, with the Lady Owls taking a 43-33 victory over the Lady Indians. 

Both teams played a close first half with neither team leading by more than four points. Andale led 13-12 after the first quarter, with Garden Plain outsourcing the Lady Indians 12-7 in the second for a 24-20 lead heading into halftime. The Lady Owls held Andale to one point in the third quarter, extending their lead to 36-21 heading into the fourth quarter. Andale scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to nine at 36-27, but could not get any closer.

Brooke Grimes led Andale with 12 points and was named to the All-Tournament team. Leading the way for Garden Plain were Lylah Zogelman, who had 10 points and seven rebounds and Reese Stuhlsatz, who recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Both Zogelman and Stuhlsatz were named to the All-Tournament team. 

Andale (8-5) returns to action on Tuesday at Nickerson. Garden Plain (10-6) hosts Cheney on Tuesday.
