Andale Girls Fall to No. 1 Wellington, Boys Rout Crusaders

ANDALE, Kan. — A top 10 matchup highlighted Tuesday’s doubleheader between Andale and Wellington.

Wellington, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, got challenged by Andale, the No. 9 team in 4A, but came out with a 58-47 victory. Andale, the No. 8-ranked team, on the boys side had no problems with the Crusaders for a 67-32 victory. 

In the girls game, Wellington led 11-10 after the first quarter. Andale outscored Wellington 14-6 to start the second quarter to hold a 24-17 lead before Wellington stormed back with a 9-2 run to take a 28-26 lead at halftime. The Lady Crusaders never looked back once the second half began and led by as many as 12 in the game. Abbi Winter led Andale (12-6, 5-2 AVCTL-IV) with 12 points while Brooke Grimes and Mayla Spexarth each had 10.

In the boys game, it was all Andale, jumping out to a 23-11 lead after one. Wellington began the second with a 7-0 run to pull within five, but not any closer. Andale led 34-20 at halftime, 48-28 after three and eventually saw a running clock in the fourth quarter. Jack Horsch led Andale (14-4, 6-1 AVCTL-IV) with a season-high 23 points, while Caden Fowler added 13 points and 10 rebounds. 

Andale hosts El Dorado on Friday for Winter Homecoming.
