Andale Girls Fall to Hayden in 4A State Quarterfinal

EMPORIA, Kan. — A strong second half by Hayden advanced the Wildcats into the state semifinals with a 54-37 victory over Andale on Tuesday in a 4A quarterfinal at White Auditorium. 

Andale jumped to a 13-6 lead before Hayden cut it to 13-11 at the end of the first quarter. Once Hayden took the lead in the second quarter at 21-20, the Wildcats never gave it up, turning it into a 27-22 halftime advantage. 

Andale cut it to 3 at 27-24 in the third quarter on a layup by Addy Orth, but Hayden used a 16-5 run to take a 43-29 lead heading into the fourth. Hayden led by 21 in the fourth quarter. 

Abbi Winter led Andale with 12 points, while Brooke Grimes added 11. Mayla Spexarth led Andale in rebounds with 17. 

Andale ends its season with a 17-7 record and graduates three seniors, Spexarth, Grimes and Mia Aouad. Hayden will play Wellington at 2 p.m. Thursday in the first of two semifinals at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson.
