ANDALE, Kan. — It took a combined seven innings for the Andale/Garden Plain softball team to sweep Rose Hill on Monday at the Andale High School Sports Complex.
Andale/Garden Plain won the opener, 16-1, in three innings and completed the sweep with a 15-0 victory in the nightcap in four innings.
In game one, Andale/Garden Plain scored eight of its runs in the first inning, highlighted by a pair of 2-run home runs by Paige Stanhope and Abby Durham. Taylor Grimes, Ryin Gibbens, Emily Eck, and Cotin Hiner each drove in a run. Rose Hill scored its lone run in the second inning. In the second, Hiner had an RBI triple, Clare Krier had an RBI groundout and Stanhope scored on an error. In the third, Gibbens had an RBI double, Lexi Brasser drove in two on a double and Durham drove in the final run on an RBI groundout.
Krier earned the win in the circle, allowing one run on four hits and had four strikeouts. Hinter went 2-for-2 with three RBIs while Durham was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
In game two, Andale/Garden Plain did not get on the scoreboard until the third inning when it scored 10 of its 15 runs. Rose Molitor’s 2-run home run set the tone in the inning, which included two runs scoring on a dropped third strike, a 2-run double by Durham, RBI singles by Gibbens and Molitor and eventually scoring on a passed ball. Durham made it 11-0 in the fourth with an RBI single, Molitor reached on an error that brought in a run, Brasser was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Brooklyn Sele ended the game with a 2-run single.
Gibbens allowed one hit and had two strikeouts in four innings, earning the win. Molitor went 3-for-4 with five RBIs, while Durham also went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Andale/Garden Plain (6-0) travels to McPherson for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. next Monday at the Grant Sports Complex in McPherson. Coverage on adastraradio.com begins at 3:45 p.m.
