ANDALE, Kan. — The Andale basketball teams opened their seasons on Tuesday with a sweep over Winfield.
Andale girls basketball coach JR Toliver picked up his first career win as the Lady Indians defeated the Lady Vikings, 52-10. Winfield pulled within one at 3-2, but it was all Andale the rest of the way. Andale led 9-2 after the first quarter and used a 20-2 second quarter for a 29-4 halftime advantage. An 18-2 third quarter triggered a running clock for the fourth quarter. Abbi Winter led Andale with 17 points while Addy Orth added 11 off the bench.
The Andale boys defeated the Vikings, 55-40. Andale never trailed in the game and led 18-10 after one, and led by as many as 15 in the first half and held a 33-21 lead at halftime. Winfield would cut the deficit to nine, but not any closer. Three Indians scored in double-figures with Caden Fowler leading the way with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Hunter Grimes added 11 points and seven rebounds while Jack Horsch tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.
