ANDALE, Kan. — The Andale basketball teams split with Wichita Collegiate on Friday night.
In a battle of two top 5 teams in their respective classifications, Collegiate, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, defeated the Indians, ranked fifth in Class 4A, 80-63. Collegiate held a 19-18 lead after the first quarter before using a 31-11 second quarter for a 50-29 lead. The Spartans led by as many as 26 in the second with the closest Andale getting was 16. Caden Fowler led the way for Andale with 15 points, while Jack Horsch added 12 and Hunter Grimes tallied 11. Andale had its four-game winning streak snapped and is now 5-2 and 3-1 in AVCTL-IV play.
The Andale girls used a 19-0 run after trailing 4-2 and never looked back in a 55-16 victory over the Lady Spartans. Andale led 30-7 at halftime, with the majority of the fourth quarter being contested with a running clock. Brooke Grimes led the way for Andale with 14 points, including hitting her 100th career 3-pointer. Abbi Winter added 13. Andale is now 4-3 and 3-1 in AVCTL-IV play.
Andale hits the road on Tuesday to take on Clearwater.
