COLBY, Kan. (KJCCC.org) – In addition to a third-straight Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 Setter of the Week Award for Cowley’s Hanna Darvas, Kansas City Kansas outside hitter Mercedez Brown and Allen defensive specialist Audrey Peek have also been named KJCCC Players of the Week for week seven of the 2024 volleyball season.
Offensive Player of the Week (Mercedez Brown – KCKCC) – It was a star week for KCKCC sophomore Mercedez Brown as the six-rotation outside hitter helped lead the Blue Devils to a 3-0 week. Earning a pair of conference sweeps and a reverse sweep of number 19 ranked NEO A&M with 3.2 kills per set and a pair of double-doubles to go along with eight total service aces. This season, Brown is sixth in the KJCCC in kills per set (3.12) and total kills (212).
Setter of the Week (Hanna Darvas – Cowley) – Darvas continues to lead Cowley’s strong offense that is averaging 15.02 kills per set, 14.38 assists per set, Points per set (19.1), and hitting percentage (.341) which all rank in the top two in the NJCAA. For the week, Darvas averaged 12.67 assists per set including a 12.33 assists per set average against Neosho County with three service aces and two kills. Recording double-doubles in both matches last week, Darvas now has four double-doubles this season. Nationally, Darvas leads the NJCAA and the KJCCC in assists per set (12.31) and leads the KJCCC while ranking 10th nationally in total assists (714).
Defensive Player of the Week (Audrey Peek – Allen) – Peek helped the Red Devils earn five wins last week by tallying 106 total digs and averaging 5.89 digs per set. The freshman also added 12 set assists and three service aces while having a perfect service receive with 87 service receptions.
