WHITEWATER – A 75-minute weather delay may have been just what Trinity Catholic needed on Friday at Remington.

After Roberto Guerrero’s 13-yard touchdown run tied the game late in the second quarter, the teams headed for shelter as a brief storm dumped rain and flashed lightning across the sky.

The Celtics came back out after the delay and scored the next 33 points, and went on to a 46-20 win.

Senior quarterback Drew Dechant had a sensational game. Dechant completed 9 of 15 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns, and he rushed 12 times for 110 yards and two more touchdowns. He also had an interception, and he punted twice for 110 yards with no returns.

Remington returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, but the Celtics answered 57 seconds later when Dechant threw a pictureesque 60-yard bomb for a touchdown to Kaid McElgunn.

The Broncos (1-2) reclaimed the lead at 13-6 on an Elliott Hochstetler 33-yard touchdown pass from Pius Graf with 9::49 left in the second quarter. But Guerrero answered with 3:44 left before halftime.

Thirty-nine seconds later, the game was delayed for more than hour.

The Celtics came out and grabbed their first lead on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Dechant to Sam Vogel, and Trinity led 19-13 at halftime.

The Celtics dominated the third quarter. Dechant had touchdown runs of 5 and 24 yards, and Luke Kerns added a 10-yard touchdown run. Kerns also had a 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

The Trinity defense shined, as the starters allowed just one touchdown and took the ball away four times. Overall, the Celtics forced five turnovers.

The Celtics will open district play next week against South Sumner County.
