It’s almost hard to imagine, but it wasn’t long ago when McPherson High School didn’t have a girls golf team.

But, as is often the nature of Bullpup sports, it wasn’t long before McPherson was winning trophies at state and producing collegiate-caliber golfers.

Brodie Kuhn has been at the heart of the new Bullpups girls golf program. This fall, Kuhn not only finished in third place at the Class 4A state tournament, but she also helped the Bullpups bring home a third-place trophy from the state tournament at Carey Park Golf Course in Hutchinson.

Because of that success, Kuhn has been named Ad Astra Radio’s area golfer of the year.

A senior, Kuhn has signed to play collegiately at Missouri Western, an NCAA Division 2 school that plays in the MIAA.

“Brodie helped launch our program four years ago as an incoming freshman, and since that time, she has been nothing short of incredible,” McPherson coach Treg Fawl said. “She has led our program both on and off the course.

She is an exceptional athlete and golfer, but an even better person.”

Although the program is still in its infancy, Kuhn has set a standard that future Bullpups will strive for but won’t be easy to match.

Kuhn’s season scoring average was 75.4. She had four tournament runner-up finishes and was named first-team all-state for a third straight year.

Kuhn was a four-time state qualifier, four-time state medalist, including three top-five finishes, and won three tournaments. Kuhn also finished in the top 10 at 23 straight tournaments.
