HUMBOLDT, Kan. — Ad Astra Radio is excited to announce they will be the new home of boys and girls varsity basketball action for the Humboldt Cubs.
“Ad Astra Radio is honored to carry on the long-standing tradition of local radio in Allen County and Southeast Kansas,” said Aaron Napier, Ad Astra Radio Vice President and Chief Programming Officer. “An important part of that tradition is supporting our local schools. We are thrilled to be adding the Humboldt Cubs to our Ad Astra Sports Network roster.”
All regular season boys and girls games will be broadcasted live on the Ad Astra Radio App, with select games set to air on 99.3/1370 KIOL.
“HHS Athletics is thrilled that all of our girls and boys varsity basketball games will be broadcast live on the radio and through the Ad Astra app,” said Terry Meadows, Humboldt High School Athletic Director and Communications Director. “We believe this will provide greater exposure for our athletes and create exciting opportunities for our fans, especially those who are unable to attend games in person. This is a valuable opportunity for our student-athletes, and we look forward to the positive impact this will have on our community and are excited to share the excitement of our games with everyone!”
Humboldt opens the regular season Friday with a doubleheader against the St. Paul Indians starting at 6 p.m. Lane Gillespie, Ad Astra Radio Sports Director, will broadcast the opening games. Huntyr Schwegman, former Chanute Tribune Sports Editor, will be the primary announcer the rest of the season.
“Humboldt fans have always been excited about their successful athletics teams, so it is truly rewarding to be able to provide another way to support their Cubs,” Schwegman said. “I look forward to following these squads throughout a great season, and I hope everyone tunes in to join me.”
