Each month, Ad Astra Radio recognizes a girls and boys Team of the Month, selected from area high schools. The Girls Team of the Month for February goes to Hutchinson-Central Christian Girls Basketball.
The month: The Cougars went 7-0, and also earned a first-round substate bye. With those wins, Central Christian clinched the Heart of the Plains League championship. Some of the Cougars’ top wins in February included a 43-36 win over Norwich and a 51-34 rout of a strong Pretty Prairie team. The Cougars’ three seniors – Jessa Losew, Ava Newcome and Lily Lang – have been important to the team’s success, not just on the stat sheet but also as leaders. The Cougars are coached by D.J. Kauffman.
